Happy Sunday Lovelies!
Hope you’ve all had a good one! I’ve spent mine with family & had a lovely roast made by Lee so I’m a right happy bean at the moment! Anyways back to the point of the post…
A few of you lovely ladies have been asking me how I get/maintain my grey hair so I am going to tell you all in this post.
Let me start by saying going grey isn’t a quick or a cheap fix! you have to be patient if you want it done properly without damaging your hair, I have now had 3 rounds of highlights to get it to how I want it and my hairdresser always uses Olaplex in the bleach to keep my hair healthy. I didn’t want to do a full head bleach as I like having different tones throughout my hair and not one solid colour but thats completely up to your own personal preference!
My lovely hairdresser is Sarah, who works at Too Funky hair in Manchester you can access their website here I try to visit Sarah every 6 weeks for a root touch up but sometimes I leave it till about 8/9 weeks. After the bleach Sarah puts a silver toner on it and this usually lasts 1-2 weeks on my hair before I then tone it myself between salon visits.
So heres my top 5 products that I use on my hair…
Fudge Proffesional, Clean Blonde Violet Shampoo 300ml £10
This is one of my favourite products, this stuff really is amazing! its great to use once a week to keep your hair cool & silver, but be careful not to leave it on longer than 15 minutes as your hair may have a slight purple tint to it, if you want this look then go for it and leave it a little longer.
Shades London Toner, Silver Lining £3.99
Shades London sent me this last week to try and I must say I am impressed! After shampooing your hair, towel dry it and apply evenly to your hair. I always start with the roots and leave it for 5 minutes before applying to the ends as this is where the brassiness can show on my hair. Please use the gloves provided or you will have purple hands!
It also says on the box that this is is a conditioning toner so you don’t need to add any conditioner after washing it out, I was sceptical of this as I know some toners can dry your hair out, so I added a little to the ends but I didn’t need too at all as my hair felt sooooo soft afterwards and it was a lovely shade of silver grey! p.s It smells amazing too!
Alterna Caviar CC Cream, £26
This was recommended to me by my hairdresser and now I use it every time I wash my hair. Alterna Caviar CC Cream is a dreaaaaam! I usually apply a walnut size to towel dried hair and it leaves it feeling super duper soft! It is a 10 in one styling cream that helps with shine, moisture, smoothness, softness, UV protection, manageability, strength, anti-breakage, heat protection and hold – must buy if you want to keep that hair of yours looking super sassy & healthy!
After using this, my top tip to keeping your locks looking extra shiny is to dry your hair on a cool setting, it will take longer but your hair will love you for it.
Lee Stafford, Coco Loco Heat Protection Spray, £5.99
I love the smell of coconut, it reminds me of holiday so much, so spraying this on my hair every morning makes me happy! Its a little bottle of magic and protects my hair from using my curlers everyday definitely a must have.
Redken All Soft Shampoo & Conditioner, £19.47
This shampoo & conditioner is perfect for hair that needs a bit of TLC after all the bleach and restores all that moisture & goodness leaving if soft, smooth and brittle free! I usually leave the conditioner in for about 3 mins to really soak in, if your brave enough wash your conditioner out with cold water, this helps it to stay even shinier!
If you want to stay really silver for longer try not to wash your hair too often either as the more you wash it the more the toners will come out and you will have more of a white/blonde look which is still lovely! Going grey is a high maintenance colour but if your willing to get the right products and look after your hair it will all be worth it 🙂
Hope you enjoyed the post!
Love, Nina x
